The remains of Mosul’s old castle on a high bank above the Tigris, at the northern edge of the old city.
Bash Tapia was part of the old fortifications of Mosul, guarding the city from a high bank above the Tigris. Its massive stone tower and walls are among the oldest surviving structures in the city.
From the castle there are good views over the river and the old city. It is close to the al-Nuri Mosque and the old markets, and is an easy stop on a walk through old Mosul.
