The shrine of al-Abbas ibn Ali, facing the Imam Husayn Shrine across the Bayn al-Haramayn promenade.
Al-Abbas ibn Ali was the half-brother and standard-bearer of Imam Husayn, and was killed at the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD while trying to bring water to Husayn’s camp. He is remembered as a symbol of loyalty and courage.
His shrine stands about 400 metres from the Imam Husayn Shrine, and the walk between the two along Bayn al-Haramayn is one of the most moving experiences of a visit to Karbala, especially in the evening.
